Whelk is biologically classified as a gastropod mollusc of the family Buccinidae. This large predatory marine snail is characterized by a thick, spirally, coiled, shell and a large muscular foot. Wild-caught in the water of Canada, these whelks are processed, cleaned, shell off, then immediately frozen to maximize the freshness and optimize the texture. The taste of these whelks is sweet, pleasant chewy, and mild. It has the flavour somewhat like clams but it's brinier and sweeter. Additionally, whelks are low in carbs but high in protein and other essential minerals such as phosphorus, selenium, calcium, and potassium that help to boost your immune system and your health.
